The site at Crowle was established in 1966 and serves as the machine shop and fabrication base. With a manual and CNC workshop and a separate fabrication shop occupying 9,000 sq. feet and 10,000 sq. feet respectively the Crowle site is able to offer machining and fabrication of large components (up to 10 tonnes in weight) on one site.
Jobs are often re-engineered or reverse engineered to bring used components and systems back to full working order. For example, a feeder that has been in use for years may be worn away. CWE will discuss the work required with the customer to bring it back into service.
Jobs are assessed using NDT techniques and measured on the FARO arm or more conventionally. Pricing can be fixed based on knowledge of the likely work or we can work with the customer to determine the scope of the work. Some preliminary work, or even the whole job, may be done on site.
The workforce is multi-disciplinary and the work is varied.
Working in carbon and stainless steel the fabricators and welders build the assemblies. MIG, TIG and MMA welding is routinely used and, from time to time, specialist processes such as sub-merged arc welding have been used.
In the machine shop a mixture of manual and CNC turning, boring and milling is carried out.
Once complete inspection, validation and compatibility tests can take place.
