First BAA wagon is released back into service

12th March, 2025

The first refurbished BAA wagon has been released back into service, in a significant development for the railway industry.

DB Cargo will be completing 60 wagons in this project, with CWE proudly overhauling the 120 swing motion bogies, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of freight transport across Europe.

The project aims to improve the operational performance of the fleet and extend the life of these critical components used in the movement of goods.

Managing Director at CWE, Dave Bates said: “We’re thrilled to be taking on the refurbishment of the swing motion bogies, it compliments the existing work we do for DB refurbishing stock, and we’re excited to see the relationship continue to develop.

“We will be using the impeccable facilities of our parent company, William Cook Rail to overhaul these bogies; their site in Leeds is perfectly equipped to deal with the demand of this project. It’s great that we can work together so efficiently to provide the highest possible standards for our customers.”

CWE’s overhaul programme has involved extensive engineering work to recondition and upgrade the swing motion bogies, ensuring they meet the latest safety standards and performance benchmarks. The upgrades are expected to result in reduced maintenance costs and fewer instances of downtime, enabling DB Cargo to operate its fleet with greater efficiency.

CWE strive to build long-term relationships with the customers, improving their fleet availability, reducing costs and shortening downtimes. For information, get in touch info@cwelimited.com.
