CWE is excited to announce the appointment of Dave Bates as the new Managing Director, effective immediately. With a distinguished career of 20 years already under his belt at CWE, Dave brings a wealth of experience and visionary leadership to the role, poised to drive CWE’s next chapter of growth and innovation alongside William Cook Rail, who acquired the business earlier this year.
Dave began his journey with CWE in 2004, stepping into the company as an apprentice coupler fitter. With a blend of determination and a passion for the craft, Dave quickly established himself through his exceptional work ethic and keen attention to detail.
Over the years, his commitment and expertise led him through various roles within the company, each one a stepping stone towards greater responsibilities. Dave’s ascent through the ranks is a testament to his deep understanding of CWE’s operations and his ability to lead with passion and creativity.
Dave said: “As I step into this new role, I am honoured by the trust placed in me and I will relish in the challenge. The last 20 years has been both a privilege and a journey of growth; I’m already lucky enough to have a well-established team here, and I am looking forward to achieving our future goals.”
“Together, we’ve faced challenges, celebrated successes, and built a culture of resilience and collaboration, and this is just the start. Focus is now on developing this business as much as we can and keeping the fleets of our loyal customers moving. We know establishing and nurturing strong customer relationships is crucial, so we are really proud of the ones that have flourished over the last few years.”
Dave’s new role will see him responsible for overseeing all aspects of CWE, operationally and commercially while developing and implementing long-term business strategies to ensure growth, alongside parent company William Cook Rail.
The combined business will underpin critical skills, capabilities and capacity at an uncertain time for the UK rail supply chain. Rolling stock builders and operators will benefit from an enhanced end-to-end design, manufacture, maintenance, repair and overhaul service.
Between them, William Cook Rail and CWE already serve almost all major European rolling stock builders and operators. Both companies hold comprehensive rail industry accreditations including RISAS, RISQS and EN15085. William Cook Rail is also certified to the world-leading International Rail Industry Standard (IRIS).
