CWE appoints Dave Bates as Commercial Director

8th April, 2022

CWE Ltd – the independent supply, maintenance and logistics partner for the rail industry – has announced the appointment of Dave Bates as Commercial Director.

Dave joined CWE in 2004 as a coupler fitter and held numerous roles before becoming commercial manager in 2020. His promotion to Commercial Director follows a period of growth for CWE, which has recently announced major new contracts with some of the biggest names in the rail sector.

In his new role, Dave will be responsible for CWE’s continued growth and for helping to establish it as a strategic partner for the UK’s rail sector.

Commenting on his appointment, he said:

“The past 18 years have been a very enjoyable journey and I really appreciate the opportunities I’ve been given to progress my career at CWE.

“The past year in particular has been really exciting, and my main focus is on helping grow CWE into a £10 million+ business. I pride myself on building strong customer relationships, so I will also be continuously looking at ways to improve our scope of core works so we can offer our customers an even better service.

“I’m also focussed on our employees, to help them grow and progress as I have. At the end of the day, without them we cannot achieve any of this.”

Earlier this year, CWE established its Centre of Excellence for Rail at its facility in Crowle, which followed investments in new equipment and a major rebrand for the company. CWE also recently announced it had won a major contract with Network Rail to overhaul the draftgear assemblies of its Mk3 Autoballaster fleet.

With more in the pipeline, 2022 looks set to be a pivotal year for CWE, as managing director Nick Andrew comments:

“We pride ourselves on investing in and developing our people, and Dave’s long and varied career with CWE shows why this sector can provide huge opportunities. His appointment is very well deserved and is testament to his hard work as CWE moves into a new period of growth. Stay tuned for more to come!”
